Welcome to my new blog. 2016 was a year that presented me with many challenges, culminating with the elimination of the job that I had been doing for the last nineteen years. While my work developing custom software for a company working on an Air Force contract was rewarding and allowed me to grow my skills and work with many good people, the work had become repetitive and at the end I was comfortable that it was time to go.
Rather than jump right into the next nine to five routine, we agreed that we would be okay if I took a few months to try and flesh out a couple of ideas that had been rattling around in my head for a while. My desire is to develop the project as something that I can steer as I see fit. An opportunity to expand my skills. In the process of bringing these ideas to life I will be doing a lot of training as I go. This site is a step in that process. While documenting my journey bringing my other projects to (more on these to follow) I’m using this site to teach myself WordPress. WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) available. As of now, my plan for my other projects is to use the Orchard Project as a CMS. The Orchard Project is built on the Visual Studio platform and will leverage my experience developing software in C#. With wealth information available on WordPress, I felt that learning how to use it would improve my understanding of core concepts of content management systems.
Ultimately I hope to turn these projects into revenue generating properties. If that doesn’t work out then the experience gained bringing them to life will serve me well if I have to hit the corporate job market again in the future.
